Job summary

Syms Strategic Group seeks a Senior Systems Engineer to provide production support for complex cloud systems. You will work with the VA department, perform routine operations, and respond to incidents while ensuring system stability and security compliance.

This is a remote, U.S.-based role requiring 8+ years in production environments, strong AWS/Azure skills, and experience with CI/CD pipelines. Public Trust clearance is preferred; on-call duties may apply.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in systems engineering or related field, production environments.
• Experience with AWS and/or Azure Cloud, S3, Step Functions, Batch Jobs, CloudWatch.
• Proven track record of managing and maintaining large-scale production systems.
• Strong Linux/Unix and Windows administration skills.
• Scripting with Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation.
• Experience with configuration management and IaC tools.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and Git-based workflows.
• Knowledge of security best practices for production systems and audits.
• Experience with database systems and performance tuning.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-level, day-to-day operational support of complex cloud systems.
• Develop solutions to routine technical problems of limited scope.
• Document problems with logging and discrepancy reporting tools.
• Work with customers in day-to-day activities and escalate issues as needed.
• Maintain and install computing infrastructure; monitor and optimize performance.
• Ensure compliance with VA standards and security policies.
