Job summary

The Hanover Insurance Group seeks a Director Casualty Claims - Auto & General Liability to provide enterprise leadership within our General Liability portfolio. This exempt, full-time role can be remote or hybrid from designated offices in Itasca, Worcester, Syracuse, Howell or Richmond.

You will set strategic direction, oversee claims leadership, and drive performance across complex casualty claims while partnering with senior leaders to optimize outcomes.

Qualifications

• Significant General Liability (CGL) claims experience with complex, high-severity and litigated matters.
• Bachelor's degree preferred; professional designations (CPCU/AIC/SCLA) or JD are a plus.
• 8–10+ years of progressive casualty claims experience with an insurer.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute strategic initiatives to improve claim outcomes and costs.
• Direct reserving practices to ensure accurate indemnity and expenses.
• Set and monitor high standards for claim handling, coverage analysis, and litigation management.
• Lead data analytics to measure initiatives, identify trends, and drive improvement.
• Serve as escalation point and technical resource on complex CGL claims, including premises/product liability.
• Guide litigation strategy with defense counsel across discovery, mediation, arbitration, and trial.
• Monitor volumes and budgets to increase efficiency and scalability.
• Lead talent management, coaching, performance reviews, and succession planning.
