Job summary

The Hanover Insurance Group is seeking a Senior Workers Compensation Adjuster to support the California team on a fully remote schedule. You will independently manage moderate to complex high-value casualty claims, lead investigations, assess coverage, and coordinate with legal and underwriting teams to ensure compliant resolutions.

Applicants should have 5–10+ years of workers compensation claims handling, required licenses, and strong negotiation, communication, and mentoring skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred, or combination of education and equivalent experience.
• 5–10+ years of workers compensation claims handling with an insurance carrier.
• Licenses in appropriate state; continuing education credits.
• Strong negotiation skills and decision-making on high-exposure cases.
• Excellent written and verbal communication across stakeholders.
• Highly organized with multitasking and desk-management ability.
• Deep understanding of regulatory environments and jurisdictional requirements.
• Empathetic customer service and professional conduct.

Responsibilities

• Manage moderate to complex, high-value casualty claims with minimal supervision.
• Lead investigations, assess coverage, and issue reservation of rights and letters.
• Pursue subrogation and strategic negotiation including litigation management.
• Ensure regulatory and company standards compliance; maintain detailed records.
• Set reserves, authorize payments within authority and ensuring accuracy.
• Coordinate with legal, underwriting, vendors, and agents; lead cross-functional meetings.
• Use analytics to identify trends and protect PII in data handling.
• Mentor junior claim handlers and contribute to training and best practices.
