Job summary

life360 is seeking a senior backend engineer to design, build, and operate distributed services powering connected-device features in a high-traffic consumer product.

You will own end-to-end backend services, from device signals to state management, telemetry, and health monitoring, while collaborating across hardware, firmware, mobile, and product teams. This role emphasizes production delivery, incident response, and AI-native development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent professional experience.
• At least five years building backend services in Java, Go, Python, or a comparable language.
• Strong experience with microservices, RESTful API design, distributed systems, and production operations.
• Practical cloud-infrastructure experience, preferably with AWS, container orchestration, and automated deployments.
• Experience with relational or NoSQL databases, caching systems, and event or streaming platforms.
• Comfortable collaborating across engineering and product disciplines and owning services through their full lifecycle.
• Demonstrated interest in AI-native development and the ability to evaluate, verify, and improve agent-generated work.

Responsibilities

• Create and maintain scalable backend services for device connectivity, telemetry ingestion, monitoring, and command or control operations.
• Work with firmware, mobile, design, and product partners to define APIs, data flows, and end-to-end workflows for device capabilities.
• Deliver resilient microservices on cloud infrastructure using container orchestration, serverless components, managed databases, queues, and related services.
• Build and own high-throughput streaming and data pipelines using Kafka or comparable event-processing technology.
• Instrument systems for observability, reliability, and service-level objectives; participate in on-call rotations and live incident response.
• Write clean, testable, performant code while improving CI/CD, deployment automation, and engineering practices.
• Orchestrate AI coding agents for specifications, implementation, test creation, incident triage, pull-request review, and system design, and share effective practices with the team.
