Job summary

Life360 is seeking a Backend Engineer for the Vertical Experiences (Devices Cloud) team. You’ll build and operate cloud services powering Life360’s connected devices, translating device signals into reliable backend systems at scale.

You’ll work across hardware, firmware, and mobile interfaces, delivering high-throughput, low-latency services and data pipelines while embracing AI-native engineering practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years building backend services in Java, Go, Python, or similar languages.
• Experience with microservices, RESTful APIs, and distributed systems.
• Strong skills with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred), containers, and deployments.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, caching, and streaming systems.
• Hands-on agentic AI workflow experience.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend services supporting device connectivity and telemetry.
• Collaborate with firmware, mobile, and product teams to define APIs and workflows.
• Deliver scalable microservices on AWS and in a microservices environment.
• Build data pipelines for high-throughput streams using Kafka or similar tech.
• Instrument services for observability, reliability, and SLO compliance.
• Participate in on-call rotations and live incident response.
• Write clean, testable code and improve CI/CD and automation.
• Orchestrate AI coding agents for spec writing, code generation, tests, and reviews.
