Job summary

MASA is seeking an Associate General Counsel, a high‑impact role reporting to the General Counsel. You will lead the legal work that powers MASA’s products, market access, regulatory relationships, and significant disputes, guiding executives with practical, strategy‑oriented advice.

You will own multistate product filings, coordinate licensing across the Caribbean and international operations, and collaborate with product, distribution, claims, and operations teams to translate regulatory

Qualifications

• J.D. and active license in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• 8+ years of progressive legal experience with substantial insurance regulatory work.
• In-house experience at an insurance carrier, MGA, healthcare company, or other regulated business, advising executives directly.
• Ability to set priorities and balance legal risk with commercial priorities, even with lean resources.
• Experience managing outside counsel in litigation or disputes and budgeting.

Responsibilities

• Lead MASA’s legal work powering products, market access, regulatory relationships, and disputes.
• Oversee multistate product filings from submission through approval and implementation.
• Shape regulatory and legislative strategy, respond to insurance inquiries, and coordinate licensing for Caribbean and international operations.
• Serve as senior legal partner to product, distribution, claims, and operations teams, translating regulatory requirements into actionable steps.
• Direct outside counsel on defenses, budgets, and settlements; manage day-to-day decisions within delegated authority.
• Help build a modern, AI-enabled legal function with safe, compliant use of AI tools.
