Job summary

Capital One is hiring a Senior Staff AI Engineer (Remote Eligible) to help build responsible and scalable AI systems for banking applications. You will work with a cross-functional team to design and deploy AI software components, including foundation model training, LLM inference, agents, and vector databases.

The role emphasizes performance optimization, governance, and enterprise-wide AI architecture, with mentorship of senior engineers and collaboration across research, data, and engineering

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/AI/EE/CE or related field with 10+ years of AI/ML experience or Master's with 8+ years.
• 10+ years of experience programming with Python, Go, Scala, CUDA, or Java

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional engineers, researchers, PMs to deliver AI-powered products.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components (foundation models, LLMs, agents, etc.).
• Leverage Open Source and SaaS AI technologies (AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, VectorDBs, PyTorch).
• Innovate foundation model optimization techniques for performance, cost, latency, throughput.
• Contribute to technical vision and long-term roadmap of AI systems at Capital One.
• Define and steer the AI architecture vision for reliability and scale.
• Lead establishment of AI safety, transparency standards across the company.
• Drive multi-year platform initiatives unifying data, compute and model lifecycle management.
• Mentor senior technical leaders across research, data and engineering.
