Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Minimum of 6 months’ experience in a physician billing or third-party payer environment.
• Strong customer service orientation and ability to handle complex situations calmly.
• Understanding of contracts, insurance benefits, exclusions and billing requirements.
• Experience with Epic or other electronic billing systems preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Experience in a call center/claims environment preferred.
• Experience in an academic healthcare setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Expeditiously handle a large volume of calls.
• Attempt to collect full payment from patient or guarantor.
• Record payments collected over the phone by date of service.
• Establish payment arrangements and document terms in billing system.
• Handle inquiries, disputes and complaints; escalate as needed.
• Obtain insurance, demographic, and guarantor information; update patient profile and bill third party payers as appropriate.
• Perform other job duties as assigned.
