Job summary

61st Street Service Corporation seeks a Self-Pay Collections Specialist II for a primarily remote role serving the Tri-State area (NY, NJ, CT). You will follow up on Self Pay balances, secure payments, and set up payment arrangements while maintaining professional, patient-focused communication with backgrounds in healthcare billing.

Responsibilities include handling inbound calls from an auto-dialer, applying payments, and updating billing information in Epic and related systems.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or GED certificate is required.
• Candidate must demonstrate strong customer service orientation and the ability to communicate effectively.
• Must understand contracts, insurance benefits, exclusions and billing requirements as well as claim forms.
• Ability to navigate payer adjudication process and fluent written/verbal communication.
• Proficiency with MS Word, Excel and Outlook; experience with Epic or other electronic billing systems preferred.
• Previous call center or medical billing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Attempt to collect full payment from patient or guarantor.
• Apply payments collected over the phone to each date of service.
• Establish payment arrangements and document terms in billing system.
• Handle inquiries, disputes and complaints; escalate when needed.
• Obtain insurance and demographic information and update patient profiles and bill third party payers.
• Document work summaries in the system.
• Assess patient's ability to pay for services.
• Create payment arrangements via cash, check, credit card, or payment plan.
• Obtain insurance information, check eligibility, and update accounts.
• Determine coverage for planned services and calculate patient out-of-pocket expenses.
• Answer calls and perform other general office tasks.
• Perform other duties as required.
