Job summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking a capable Medical Billing Specialist to manage account follow-up, insurance verifications, and patient inquiries. You will resolve self-pay balances, work with clinics and vendors, and ensure accurate documentation while upholding patient privacy and compliance standards.

The role requires 3 years of medical billing and 1 year in customer service, with a High School diploma or GED and preferred college coursework.

Qualifications

• Education: High School or GED equivalent. Experience: 3 years directly related medical billing and 1 year of customer service experience in evaluating customer billing inquiries.
• Preferred: Some college.

Responsibilities

• Resolve discrepancies on all guarantor account balance types and document actions in system notes.
• Work self-pay accounts within work queues and manage aging, bankruptcy, charity, and balance discrepancies.
• Resolve complex deceased and/or bankruptcy account issues and coordinate with the Office of General Counsel as needed.
• Coordinate with collection agencies for recalls and verify balances and statements.
• Assist with Third Party Liability related tasks as needed.
• Respond promptly to written patient inquiries and assist as backup to Customer Service.
• Collaborate with Insurance Follow-up on benefits, denials, or claim issues.
• Identify process improvements and propose new procedures to enhance collections and customer service.
• Report trends in Self-Pay queues and suggest workflow improvements.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
