Job summary

Block is seeking an experienced risk engineer to lead SFS third-party risk management and business continuity. You will define technical approaches for ambiguous problems and build pipelines unifying signals across systems. This role focuses on automating governance with policy-as-code and agentic AI workflows.

Ideal candidates have 4+ years in production software, proficiency in Python/Java/Kotlin/Go, and hands-on experience with LLMs and data integration in cloud environments.

Qualifications

• 4+ years building production software in backend, platform, data, or software engineering.
• Multi-year ownership of a production system, including on-call and SLOs.
• Proficiency with Python, Kotlin, Java, or Go; comfortable with unfamiliar codebases.
• Hands-on experience building with LLMs and AI workflows; model judgment awareness.
• Experience with REST APIs, webhooks, authentication, and event-driven patterns.
• Experience integrating and joining data from multiple sources.

Responsibilities

• Own and operationalize a SFS third-party risk management and business continuity program.
• Define the technical approach for cross-team, ambiguous problems in an early-stage program.
• Build and operate pipelines that aggregate, normalize, and join risk signals across systems.
• Translate standards into policy-as-code and testable checks running continuously.
• Design agentic AI workflows combining LLM reasoning with auditable decision layers.
• Automate evidence collection and continuous control monitoring.
