Job summary

Block, Inc. is seeking a Security Engineer for Business Continuity & Risk in the Bay Area. You will design and operationalize third-party risk programs, build data pipelines, and create policy-as-code to automate controls across Block and Square Financial Services.

You’ll join a team that balances security with resilience, partnering across Security, Procurement, and Engineering to turn complex governance into scalable products and measurable outcomes.

Qualifications

• Experience in third-party risk management and business continuity.
• 4+ years building production software in backend, platform, data, or software engineering.
• Ownership of a production system, including on-call and SLOs.
• Proficient in Python, Kotlin, Java, or Go; able to read unfamiliar codebases.
• Hands-on experience with LLMs and agent frameworks.
• Experience with REST APIs, webhooks, authentication, and event-driven architectures.
• Experience pulling, normalizing, and joining data from multiple sources and edge cases.
• Ability to define technical direction across teams in ambiguous problems.
• Attention to detail with risk-based prioritization.
• Curiosity and comfort in early-stage, low-structure programs.

Responsibilities

• Own and operationalize a third-party risk management and business continuity program.
• Define the technical approach for ambiguous, cross-team problem spaces.
• Build and operate pipelines and integrations that aggregate risk signals across systems.
• Translate standards into policy-as-code, with testable, versioned checks.
• Design agentic AI workflows pairing LLM reasoning with deterministic decision layers.
• Automate evidence collection and continuous control monitoring.
• Partner with Security, Procurement, Resilience and Engineering teams.
• Contribute to technical design discussions about platform reliability.
