Job summary

UnitedHealth Group's Optum is seeking a SDS/Observations Medical Coder to join our remote team. This full-time role focuses on accurate CPT and ICD-10 coding for outpatient services, with strict adherence to guidelines and client requirements.

You will work weekdays, telecommute from anywhere in the U.S., maintain coding quality and productivity, and participate in ongoing education. A $3,000 sign-on bonus is available to external applicants.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Current AHIMA or AAPC credential (RHIA/RHIT/CCS/CCS-P/CPC/CPC-H) required.
• 2+ years outpatient facility coding experience.
• 2+ years Same Day Surgery coding experience.
• 2+ years ICD-10 experience.
• Proficient with Windows/MS Excel and EMR systems.

Responsibilities

• Identify CPT and ICD-10 codes for outpatient Ambulatory Observation services per guidelines.
• Analyze and correct CCI Edits and Medical Necessity Edits.
• Understand Medicare APC codes and apply them appropriately.
• Abstract additional data during chart review as needed.
• Maintain coding quality and productivity per Optum360 standards.
• Provide feedback and query physicians when needed.
• Stay updated with coding knowledge from QM Manager and Directors.
• Participate in department meetings and education events.
• Maintain records of coded/missing charts.
