Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking a qualified medical coder to join our remote team. The role emphasizes accurate ICD-10/CPT coding, modifiers, and observation coding while adhering to AHIMA/AAPC guidelines and client requirements.

The position offers full-time hours, with occasional overtime as needed, and the flexibility to work from a dedicated home office within the United States. Strong Excel and EMR proficiency are expected.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Professional coder certification from AHIMA and/or AAPC (CCA, CCS, RHIA, RHIT, CPC-H/COC, CIC, CCS-P, CPC) and maintained annually.
• Minimum 2+ years of experience with ICD-10, CPT and modifiers.
• Minimum 2+ years of experience in observation coding.
• Proficient with Windows, Microsoft Excel, and EMR systems; strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Assign ICD-10, CPT and modifiers for facility services per guidelines and client rules.
• Maintain coding accuracy and productivity per QM Manager and director guidance.
• Understand APC codes and with knowledge of NCCI edit policies and Medicare guidelines.
• Query physicians when needed and participate in coding department meetings.
• Keep up-to-date coding knowledge through materials provided by QM leadership.
