Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking a SDS/Observations Medical Coder to work full-time from a remote location within the United States. You will assign CPT and ICD-10 codes for outpatient ambulatory observation, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and client requirements.

The role requires AHIMA or AAPC credentials and at least 2 years of outpatient facility coding experience, including ICD-10. You will maintain high coding quality and productivity while collaborating with the QM team and

Qualifications

• Outpatient facility coding experience required.
• Must hold AHIMA or AAPC credential (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CPC or CPC-H).
• 2+ years of outpatient facility coding experience.
• 2+ years of ICD-10 experience.
• Intermediate Windows environment proficiency (MS Excel, EMR systems).

Responsibilities

• Identify CPT and ICD-10 code assignments for outpatient Ambulatory Observation services in line with guidelines.
• Apply coding knowledge to analyze/correct edits and medical necessity edits.
• Understand APC codes and related coding classifications.
• Abstract data elements during chart reviews as needed.
• Maintain coding quality and productivity per QM Manager and Director.
• Provide documentation feedback and query physicians when appropriate.
• Stay current with coding knowledge from QM Manager and Coding/Quality leadership.
• Participate in department meetings and educational events.
• Review and track charts coded or missing; support additional duties as assigned by manager.
