Job summary

Michigan Medicine seeks a Supervisor for the Centralized Outpatient Authorization team. The role focuses on supervising staff performing financial clearance activities, ensuring timely authorizations, patient estimates, and denial management.

You will guide operational improvements and staff development within a hybrid/remote work model. The position requires education in healthcare administration and several years of related experience, with strong communication and computer skills.

Qualifications

• Associates degree in healthcare administration or related field with 5 years healthcare admin/clinical experience.
• Knowledge of health insurance coverage, benefits, third-party payers, and coding basics.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication; problem solving and negotiation skills.
• Excellent computer application skills and ability to work in a team-focused environment.
• Experience with supervisory responsibilities and staff development is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily operations of staff performing financial clearance activities (insurance verification, eligibility, prior authorizations, patient estimates, pre-collections, denial management).
• Coordinate workload to ensure timely authorizations before patient appointments.
• Interview, hire, and train staff; manage schedules and timesheets.
• Conduct regular 1:1 meetings and provide performance feedback.
• Lead QA/audits and drive process improvements; track KPI data.
• Perform root cause analyses of denials and educate staff on improvements.
• Lead special projects and coordinate cross‑department opportunities.
