Job summary

The University of California, Office of the President, Research Policy Analysis and Coordination (RPAC), seeks a Research Policy Manager to provide subject-matter expertise on research policy, sponsors, IP policy, material transfers, clinical trials, and contract/grant functions with a high degree of autonomy.

This California-based remote role requires residence in California and willingness to travel to Oakland for meetings.

Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years of experience within the UC system or higher education.
• Advanced knowledge of academic policies and procedures in higher education.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to read, interpret, and respond to pending legislation and draft policies.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments with competing priorities.

Responsibilities

• Lead on systemwide research policy issues and develop UC policies and guidance.
• Negotiate systemwide master and campus research agreements and exceptions.
• Monitor external trends and regulations impacting UC research activities.
• Develop and conduct training on policy issues and compliance.
• Represent UC in meetings with agencies and government entities.
• May lead and mentor less experienced staff.
