Job summary

Merck is seeking a Regional Medical Scientific Director to serve as a therapeutic expert who exchanges scientific information with Scientific Leaders and supports company-sponsored trials and investigator-sponsored research. The role emphasizes scientific exchange, research, congress support, and insights across IN, KY, WV, and VA, with up to 50% travel and a remote-friendly setup.

The position requires a terminal degree (PhD/PharmD/DNP/DO/MD) and at least 3 years of relevant experience, plus

Qualifications

PhD/PharmD/DNP/DO/MD required.
Minimum 3 years of relevant therapeutic area experience beyond the degree program.
Ability to conduct doctoral-level discussions with external stakeholders.
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
Knowledge of FDA, OIG, HIPAA and related guidelines.
Proficient in MS Office; Teams; virtual meeting platforms.

Responsibilities

Engage in scientific exchange with national and regional SLs to share approved medical information.
Lead peer-to-peer scientific discussions and provide medical contact within the company.
Address questions outside scope and direct inquiries to appropriate resources.
Stay current with AOI scientific and clinical developments and apply knowledge.
Support research discussions with SLs and potential investigators for study concepts.
Identify barriers to patient enrollment and retention to meet milestones.
Lead protocol discussions with GCTO and advise investigators on participation.
Represent the company at scientific congresses and facilitate data exchange.
