Carilion Clinic is seeking a Remote Referral Coordinator to manage referrals, authorizations, and medical records for a centralized referral organization. The role emphasizes accurate data handling, excellent patient service, and collaboration across departments.

Typical hours are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday–Friday, with remote flexibility as noted. Requires healthcare experience, Associate degree, and Virginia MLTSS certification; comprehensive benefits accompany the role.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent combination of education or equivalent 4 years of experience required.
• Experience in Healthcare practice setting preferred.
• Virginia MLTSS (UAI) Certification required to complete orientation and maintained throughout employment.
• Advanced computer skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and related office software; strong communication and organization.

Responsibilities

• Schedule referral requests, including patient visits, testing, procedures and surgeries.
• Coordinate referral authorizations and manage medical records as required.
• Ensure insurance, demographic and eligibility data are accurate in the system.
• Provide high level customer service to patients, staff and external partners.
• Verify referral and authorization requirements and complete processes within required timeframes.
• Support team with data entry, reporting, and department projects as directed.
• Communicate effectively with management, clinical staff and external entities.
• Direct patients to appropriate facilities and offices as needed.
