Job summary

Lumen is seeking a Lead Information Security Engineer to join the Red Team within our Product and Platform Security organization. You will lead advanced penetration testing, adversarial emulation, and ACE exercises across cloud-native and hybrid environments, while guiding engagements and mentoring engineers.

This remote role supports engineers across the U.S., balancing deep technical acumen with leadership responsibilities to drive remediation and risk reduction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in information security or a related field.
• 5+ years of hands-on penetration testing, offensive security, or advanced security assessment experience; 7+ years in information security (or 5+ years with a Bachelor’s).
• Professional certifications in penetration testing such as GPEN, GWAPT, GMOB, OSCP, OSWE, or equivalent.
• Proven experience leading complex penetration tests and adversarial exercises from planning through reporting.
• Deep expertise in MITRE ATT&CK, threat-informed testing and adversarial emulation.
• Strong knowledge of AWS, Azure, and/or GCP security and cloud control planes.
• Experience applying OWASP, NIST, CIS Controls, and other security frameworks.
• Advanced knowledge of networks, OS, identity systems, applications, APIs, scripting, and enterprise technologies.

Responsibilities

• Lead penetration testing, adversarial emulation, and threat-based security assessments.
• Plan, execute, and report complex security assessments across infrastructure, apps, cloud, APIs, databases, and identity systems.
• Direct ACE and Red Team engagements, coordinating stakeholders and delivering recommendations.
• Provide technical leadership across multiple initiatives while remaining hands-on.
• Define testing strategies, review findings, and guide remediation to reduce risk.
• Collaborate with incident response, engineering, product, and business teams to identify vulnerabilities and paths of attack.
• Drive automation, tooling, and AI/ML-enabled security capabilities; expand Red Team services.
• Communicate risks and business impacts to executives and technical audiences; promote security culture.
