Job summary

UVA Health is seeking a Coding Quality Specialist 2 to maintain documentation integrity and coding quality for Psychiatry and Behavioral Health services. The role supports providers across outpatient, inpatient, consultative, and telehealth encounters in a fully remote setting.

You will review complex clinical notes, apply CPT/ICD-10-CM rules, and ensure compliant billing while staying updated on evolving payer requirements and telehealth guidelines.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of relevant psychiatry/behavioral health coding experience.
• CPC certification required or eligible.
• Remote work flexibility within a national scope.

Responsibilities

• Review, code, validate, and audit psychiatric professional fee encounters for accuracy and compliance.
• Interpret complex clinical documentation to assign CPT, ICD-10-CM, and modifiers.
• Evaluate E/M services, diagnostic evaluations, psychotherapy, crisis interventions, and medication management.
• Assess medical necessity, diagnosis specificity, time-based coding, and behavioral health documentation standards.
• Identify coding trends, documentation deficiencies, compliance concerns, and reimbursement risks.
