Job summary

UVA Health in Charlottesville is seeking a Coding Quality Specialist 2 for a fully remote role focused on behavioral health and psychiatry coding. You will review complex documentation, ensure CPT/ICD-10-CM accuracy, and support providers to maintain compliant, efficient coding for services across the continuum of care.

This role emphasizes independence, documentation integrity, and ongoing education, with hands-on use of Epic and EncoderPro to resolve questions and monitor regulatory changes

Qualifications

• CPC certification required.
• 2+ years of relevant coding experience.
• Psychiatry/Behavioral Health coding experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review, code, validate, and audit psychiatric professional fee encounters for accuracy and compliance.
• Interpret complex clinical documentation to support accurate CPT, ICD-10-CM, and modifier assignment.
• Evaluate psychiatric E/M services, diagnostic evaluations, psychotherapy, crisis interventions, and medication management encounters.
• Assess medical necessity, diagnosis specificity, and time-based coding requirements.
• Identify coding trends, documentation deficiencies, and reimbursement risks.
• Apply DSM-5 reporting, behavioral health documentation, and payer-specific billing requirements.
• Support coding quality initiatives through charge review and validation activities.
• Utilize Epic, EncoderPro, and other coding resources to resolve complex questions.
