Job summary

UVA Health, a nationally recognized academic medical center, seeks an experienced Neurosurgery Coding Specialist to translate complex neurosurgery services into compliant codes for reimbursement, quality reporting, and regulatory compliance. This fully remote role collaborates with providers and revenue cycle teams to ensure coding accuracy.

You will review documentation, apply CPT and ICD-10-CM rules, identify gaps, and maintain coding quality using Epic and EncoderPro.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of neurosurgery coding experience.
• CPC certification required.
• Proficiency in CPT, ICD-10-CM and NCCI edits.
• Experience with Epic and EncoderPro is ideal.

Responsibilities

• Independently review and code complex neurosurgery procedures and E/M encounters.
• Apply CPT, ICD-10-CM, modifiers, NCCI edits and payer policies.
• Interpret documentation to ensure accurate, compliant codes.
• Identify gaps and risks, flagging when provider clarification is needed.
• Support coding quality with research and guideline applications.
