Job summary

WSP is seeking an experienced Transmission Planning Engineer (PSCAD Specialist) to join our Electrical Studies, SCADA, and Protection (ESSP) team. The position is based in Denver, CO, with consideration for other US offices or remote work.

You will support EMT transmission planning studies and PSCAD model development, collaborating with engineers and clients to deliver reliable energy infrastructure. Strong PSCAD experience and 7–10 years of EMT study work are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
• Engineer in Training Certification.
• 7 to 10 years of direct experience performing transmission planning studies, including EMT studies.
• PSCAD experience including complex controls interactions, inverter and rotating generation, detailed FACTS modeling, grid-forming controls knowledge, and sub-synchronous studies.
• Experience developing and tuning PSCAD models for new and existing transmission resources.
• Ability to work successfully in a dynamic team environment with a focus on supporting projects that meet customer needs.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with engineers and non-engineering audiences.
• Self-leadership and the ability to interact with clients, regulators, and employees at all levels.
• Must reside and work within the United States.

Responsibilities

• Perform EMT network studies, generation/load interconnection, and microgrid modeling.
• Develop generation, load, and asset models based on provided designs; use manufacturer models when available.
• Tune PSCAD models and parameters for performance; collaborate with equipment manufacturers.
• Create controls for plants, grid-following/forming inverters, synchronous generation, FACTS.
• Lead project tasks within scope, schedule, and budget.
• Prepare study reports with assumptions and recommendations.
• Mentor junior engineers and support transmission planning teams.
• Stay current with Transmission Planning guides and industry practices.
• Support business development with proposals and client meetings.
