Job summary

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company seeks a seasoned underwriting professional to lead program underwriting and manage complex risk. You will drive strategic decisions, develop guidelines, and coordinate with multiple partners to deliver profitable program solutions.

The role requires building relationships with reinsurers and internal stakeholders, overseeing end-to-end underwriting processes, and traveling to meet program managers and clients.

Qualifications

• Education: Undergraduate studies with focus in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics and/or Risk Management. Graduate degree preferred.
• Experience: Typically eight or more years’ related experience as a commercial insurance (primarily E&S) or specialty underwriter.
• Knowledge and skills: Strong writing and verbal communication; ability to influence and negotiate with partners; ability to manage large programs.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the principal underwriting lead for assigned programs with authority to make independent underwriting decisions.
• Develop and execute strategic underwriting plans and guidelines for programs; achieve targets for profitability.
• Collaborate with claims, actuary, compliance, finance, and marketing teams; interact with program managers and brokers.
• Travel locally and overnight to meet with program managers and clients as needed.
