Job summary

Nationwide is seeking an experienced underwriting professional to lead complex programs in its Property and Casualty division. You will underwrite, price, and tailor coverage while coordinating with actuarial, claims, and compliance teams to optimize profitability and client satisfaction.

The role emphasizes independent decision-making, program development, and cross-functional collaboration, with travel to program manager offices as needed.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in commercial insurance underwriting or specialty underwriting
• Program leadership experience preferred
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and market conditions

Responsibilities

• Serves as the primary underwriting lead for assigned programs with authority to make independent underwriting decisions
• Drives the underwriting relationship for Programs products and services and develops strategic plans
• Analyzes program manager relationships and recommends corrective actions
• Reviews complex risks and determines endorsements and exclusions for coverage
• Engages with reinsurers and compiles data for presentations
• Develops and implements underwriting guidelines, rates, and product endorsements
• Interacts with claims, actuarial, compliance to achieve company goals
• Owns end-to-end audit processes for programs
• Travels to program manager offices for marketing and relationship building
• Leads implementation of new programs across underwriting, compliance, finance, and marketing
• Promotes E&S or Specialty Programs at industry events
• Provides training and guidance to underwriting staff
• Keeps knowledge of insurance regulations and relevant legislation
