Job summary

Skylight is a fully remote software consultancy partnering with U.S. Air Force and government teams to modernize legacy systems and drive agile transformation. You will shape technical strategy, apply lean‑agile practices, and coach government engineers in modern software development while delivering high-impact results.

The role emphasizes architecture reviews, collaboration with vendors, and hands-on demonstrations of modern engineering practices, including AI-assisted approaches.

Qualifications

• Write clean, working, reusable code
• Understand how software pieces fit together with performance and reliability in mind
• Build secure, compliant software and defend against vulnerabilities
• Evaluate existing systems and communicate findings to engineers and stakeholders
• Hold architectural decision rights in multi-vendor engagements; explain tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders
• Experience in agile software development
• Mentor, coach, and pair with government partners to carry work forward
• Work with cross-functional teams in iterative delivery
• Align with company core values

Responsibilities

• Assess legacy applications and technical environments to identify debt and opportunities for improvement
• Own modernization strategy, technical direction, and test strategy
• Advocate lean‑agile engineering practices (API-first design, simple design, CI, version control, automated testing)
• Guide teams toward secure, compliant software meeting federal standards
• Pair with government engineers to propagate modern practices, including AI-assisted development
• Collaborate with product managers, researchers, and designers to ensure technical recommendations serve user and mission needs
