Job summary

GitHub is hiring for a Production Engineer to embed with product and infrastructure teams, improving reliability, performance, and operator productivity. You will design and operate software across production systems, partnering with teams to enhance observability and resiliency.

Strong experience in distributed systems and multiple languages is required. The role is remote in the United States with a competitive compensation package, stock options, and opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

• 11+ years' experience in software engineering or related field with production software delivery across languages such as C/C++/Java/Python/Go/C#.
• Experience designing, operating, and debugging large-scale distributed systems with focus on high availability, automation, observability, and reliability.
• Strong software engineering in one or more modern languages (Go, Rust, C++, Java, Python, or C#).
• Experience with Linux, networking fundamentals, and systems performance.
• Ability to influence technical direction across teams without direct authority.

Responsibilities

• Embed with engineering teams to improve reliability, scalability, and operability of production systems.
• Own complex production problems end-to-end, from debugging incidents to long-term design.
• Design, build, and operate software and infrastructure that improve production performance.
• Collaborate with product and infrastructure teams on observability, capacity planning, and resiliency.
• Write and review production-quality code; automate workflows and reduce manual work.
• Participate in incident response and drive learning from incidents.
