Tailscale is seeking a talented and motivated Software Engineering Manager to join our fully remote team. You will mentor engineers, lead cross-functional Pods, and provide technical direction while growing our engineering culture and processes.

As a distributed company, you’ll collaborate asynchronously, hire and guide teams, and help move the product forward with a focus on reliability and performance. Competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits accompany this remote-first role.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated leadership with substantial experience in managing and mentoring Engineering teams.
• Background building and operating production services with high availability and performance targets.
• Expertise managing on call rotations and incident response.
• Experience developing in Go, used for much of the system.
• Ability to give and process constructive feedback, as well as work independently.

Responsibilities

• Provide guidance, mentorship, and career development for a team of software engineers.
• Coordinate with Product, Data Science, and Design to deliver features across Pods.
• Provide technical direction and grow the engineering leadership within the team.
• Contribute to recruiting and shaping engineering culture and processes.
• Lead operations for critical production services including monitoring and incident response.
