First Citizens is seeking a Principal OpenShift Engineer to lead architecture, administration, automation, security, and operational excellence of enterprise OpenShift platforms across hybrid and multi‑cloud environments.

The role requires guiding platform strategy, establishing best practices, and mentoring teams while partnering with architects, security, developers, and business stakeholders to deliver a world‑class container platform.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree + 10+ years in hands-on cloud leadership OR High School Diploma + 14+ years in hands-on cloud leadership
• 10+ years of infrastructure/platform engineering experience
• 7+ years of Kubernetes/OpenShift administration experience

Responsibilities

• Design, upgrade, and maintain enterprise OpenShift clusters across on‑prem and cloud environments.
• Develop platform roadmaps and technical strategies aligned with business objectives.
• Architect highly available, fault-tolerant and scalable OpenShift environments.
• Administer cluster lifecycle: installation, upgrades, patching, backups, DR.
• Define standards for provisioning, capacity planning, and workload optimization.
• Lead incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous improvements.
