Job summary

Hims & Hers is seeking a Principal Data Engineer to set the technical direction for data across our platform. This senior IC role will shape architecture and standards for ingestion, streaming, and analytics serving millions of patients.

You will own multi-year platform strategy, define data contracts, and mentor others while staying hands-on. Deep GCP/BigQuery and AWS experience are essential; multicloud is expected.

Qualifications

• 15+ years building and owning data platform architecture.
• Experience defining the edges of your own architectural authority.
• Deep GCP and BigQuery expertise, plus strong AWS operational fluency.

Responsibilities

• Define the multi-year platform architecture spanning ingestion to serving.
• Decide streaming strategy for analytics vs production infrastructure.
• Define interfaces and data contracts between teams.
• Establish data quality, freshness, and cost accountability.
• Lead self-service capabilities and guardrails for analytics teams.
• Chair Architecture Review and guide cross-team decisions.
• Mentor engineers and contribute hands-on platform work.
• Ensure HIPAA/PHI compliance posture with Legal and Security.
