Job summary

Walgreens is seeking a Remote Pharmacy Technician to review prior authorization requests and support coverage determinations for our pharmacy services team. This role focuses on evaluating medication requests across health plans, with collaboration from pharmacists for final review, and a structured schedule in a remote setting.

You will work with PBM systems, ensure accurate data entry, and maintain compliance while providing professional service to providers and members.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Active pharmacy technician license in state of operation.
• National certification (PTCB or NHA) required.
• Current state registration as pharmacy technician.
• Strong computer and data-entry skills.
• Experience with prior authorization processes preferred.
• Ability to navigate PBM systems.

Responsibilities

• Review prior authorization requests to support coverage determinations.
• Approve or deny coverage based on criteria; route to pharmacist for final sign-off.
• Track coverage determinations from receipt to completion.
• Enter decisions into PBM and internal systems with accuracy.
• Obtain verbal authorizations from prescribers as needed.
• Handle PA requests for all health plans and medications.
• Respond to client inquiries about coverage and PA status.
• Refer complex requests to specialty drug teams.
• Contact providers to clarify prescriptions and gather missing information.
• Support inbound/outbound calls while maintaining remote workload.
• Use multiple screens to review data and document activities.
• Maintain data-entry accuracy and compliance.
• Collaborate with pharmacists and technicians to ensure workflow.
• Adhere to regulatory and privacy policies.
• Meet performance metrics and participate in training.
