Job summary

Pocketbook Strategies is seeking a full-time Payroll and Operations Specialist to manage payroll across platforms such as Gusto and Rippling, plus health insurance and fringe benefits for 10+ nonprofit clients. This remote role reports to the Senior Director, Operations, and requires calm under pressure and strong coordination.

Starting salary is $70,000-$85,000 per year, commensurate with experience. Occasional in-person team retreats 2–3 times a year, with the role fully remote but team-driven

Qualifications

• 3+ years payroll, insurance, and benefits management at a 501(c) org or political campaign.
• Familiarity with Gusto, Rippling, and other payroll platforms.
• 2+ years of client or project management handling 10+ clients.
• Ability to explain complex admin topics in plain terms.
• At least 1 year nonprofit accounting/finance or FEC campaign compliance.

Responsibilities

• Manage payroll for 10+ clients using Gusto, Rippling or Justworks with accuracy.
• Oversee health, dental and fringe benefits, open enrollment and renewals.
• Coordinate insurance policies for multiple clients and payroll deductions.
• Support entity operations and respond to client questions and issues.
• Ensure compliance and timely state reporting where applicable.
