Job summary

Airbnb is seeking an experienced backend engineer to design, build and operate distributed services for the AirCover Insurance Platform. You will work on policy, coverage and enrollment APIs, supporting multi-region rules and scalable infrastructure.

You will implement experimentation hooks, logging and metrics to enable data-driven decisions, collaborating with Product, Design, Data Science, Legal and security teams.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience focusing on backend services.
• Proficiency in Java, Kotlin, Python or Go.
• Experience building and operating services and APIs with relational databases and SQL.
• Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in CS, or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to backend services and APIs for policy, coverage, enrollment and regional rules that scale to new markets.
• Translate product and regulatory requirements into clean, well-tested code and configurable platform behavior.
• Implement experimentation hooks, logging and metrics for testing offers and measure attach rate.
• Partner with Product, Design, Data Science, Legal and other engineering teams to deliver high-impact work.
• Use data to find gaps in conversion and reliability, and drive fixes and improvements.
• Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions and operational improvements across the team.
• Design, build and operate distributed backend services with reliable monitoring, logging and alerting.
• Write and review code and technical designs with sound engineering judgment.
• Build data pipelines and events to support analytics and experiments.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, security and privacy teams to meet data protection standards across regions.
• Take part in on-call rotations to improve system reliability.
