Job summary

Airbnb is seeking a senior software engineer to join the AirCover Insurance Platform team, building backend services for host liability, experiences liability, and host damage protection. The role focuses on scalable, multi-regional systems and a multi-year platform roadmap.

You will design, build, and operate distributed services, mentor engineers, and collaborate with security and privacy teams to uphold data protection standards across regions. On-call rotations are part of the role.

Qualifications

• 5–9+ years of software engineering experience, ideally building and scaling backend platforms in a global or multi-regional context.
• Proficiency in backend development in Java, Kotlin, Python, Go, or similar, with working knowledge of relational databases and SQL.
• Excellent communication and ability to work through ambiguity with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate distributed backend services with reliable monitoring, logging, and alerting.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and privacy teams to meet high standards for data protection across regions.
• Take part in on-call rotations and help improve system reliability.
