Job summary

knownwell is hiring a Patient Financial Services Specialist for a fully remote role in the United States. You will handle patient billing inquiries, post payments, explain insurance coverage, and resolve balances with empathy and accuracy.

Ideal candidates have experience in patient billing, healthcare customer service, and familiarity with Athenahealth. Strong communication and problem-solving skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; college degree preferred.
• Experience in patient billing, collections, and healthcare customer service.
• Strong verbal and written communication; ability to stay calm under pressure.
• Proficiency with EHR systems; Athenahealth preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary contact for patient billing questions via phone, email, portal, text, and chat.
• Manage patient billing and collections for past appointments using Athenahealth.
• Monitor inquiries and escalate recurring issues to management for resolution.
• Post payments and adjustments; explain insurance coverage and patient responsibilities.
• Maintain empathetic, courteous service in all interactions.
• Handle billing complaints and escalate complex issues as needed.
• Collaborate with Revenue Cycle Management to resolve billing/coding issues.
• Support department projects and cross-team process improvements.
