Job summary

61st Street Service is seeking a Customer Service Specialist II to manage high-volume patient calls and resolve billing issues. You will collect payments, set up payment plans, and update patient and guarantor accounts with accurate demographic and insurance data.

The role requires familiarity with physician billing, payer contracts, and retention of professional conduct. Some on-site attendance may be required; primarily remote work is supported within the Tri-State area.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or GED certificate is required.
• Minimum of 1 year’s experience in physician billing or third party payer.
• Knowledge of contracts, insurance benefits, exclusions, and billing requirements, including claim forms, HMOs, PPOs, Medicare, Medicaid, and compliance rules.
• Ability to understand payer adjudication processes.
• Experience with patient financial and practice management systems, preferably Epic or other EMR.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Experience in a call center/claims environment, preferably in an academic healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

• Expeditiously handle large volume of calls.
• Attempt to collect full payment from patient or guarantor.
• Establish payment arrangements per guidelines and document terms in billing system.
• Apply payments collected over the phone to each date of service.
• Handle inquiries, disputes, and complaints; escalate to supervisor as needed.
• Obtain insurance, demographic, guarantor information and update patient profiles.
• Bill third party payers as appropriate.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
