Job summary

Maximus is seeking a part-time Senior IBM COBOL Developer to support our IRS client. This is a remote position and requires an active IRS Moderate-Risk Background Investigation (MBI).

The role involves creating and maintaining IBM COBOL programs, updating documentation, and performing system analysis and testing to ensure compliance and project deliverables. Strong communication and ability to work independently are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in relevant field and 5+ years of professional experience required
• Active IRS Moderate-Risk Background Investigation (MBI) required
• Experience with IBM COBOL programming language (4+ years)
• Experience with DB2 and IBM DB2 utilities
• Experience with CICS
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to interface with all levels of management
• Experience with IRS processing systems; SQL, JCL, Batch processing preferred

Responsibilities

• Create, update, unit test, and maintain IBM COBOL programs
• Update documentation such as FSPs/PRPs and Visio diagrams as needed
• Track requirements and create/execute unit test cases
• Review documentation and internal manuals
• Rewrite programs to improve efficiency and meet new requirements
• Provide guidance and training to other staff as needed
• Consult with managers, engineers, and testers to clarify program intent
• Perform systems analysis and programming tasks to maintain computer systems software
