Job summary

Maximus seeks a PART TIME Senior IBM COBOL Developer to support the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) client in a fully remote capacity. Candidates must have an active Moderate-Risk Background Investigation (MBI) and robust COBOL, DB2, and CICS experience to design, test, and enhance COBOL-based solutions.

Primary duties include creating and maintaining IBM COBOL programs, updating technical documentation, tracking requirements, and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 5+ years of professional experience required or equivalent
• Active IRS Moderate-Risk Background Investigation (MBI) required
• At least 4 years of IBM COBOL programming experience
• Experience with DB2 and IBM DB2 utilities
• Experience with CICS
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to interface with all levels of management
• Proven client support experience
• Preferred: IRS processing systems, SQL, JCL, Batch processing

Responsibilities

• Create, update, unit test, and maintain IBM COBOL programs
• Update documentation such as FSPs or PRPs and Visio diagrams
• Track requirements and execute unit tests
• Review and comment on UWRs, IRMs, ICDs, COHs
• Rewrite programs using workflow charts and logic
• Revise/repair/expand existing programs for efficiency
• Consult with management, engineering and technical staff
• Perform systems analysis and programming tasks
• Document program development and revisions with comments
• Prepare workflow charts and translate to code
• Assist testers in SAT and FIT environments
