Job summary

Maximus is seeking a PART TIME Senior IBM COBOL Developer to support our Internal Revenue Service (IRS) client. This is a remote position and requires an active Moderate-Risk Background Investigation (MBI).

Essential duties include creating and updating COBOL programs, testing changes, documenting processes, and collaborating with stakeholders to ensure compliant, efficient outputs. Strong IBM COBOL, DB2, and CICS experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 5+ years of professional experience.
• Active IRS Moderate-Risk Background Investigation (MBI) required.
• At least five years of IBM COBOL experience.
• Experience with DB2, CICS, SQL, JCL, and batch processing.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and client service skills.

Responsibilities

• Create, update, unit test, and maintain IBM COBOL programs.
• Update and maintain program documentation and diagrams.
• Track requirements and execute unit test cases.
• Analyze and review documentation such as IRMs and ICDs.
• Rewrite programs and improve efficiency while applying tax knowledge.
• Collaborate with managers, engineers, and testers to clarify program intent.
• Perform systems analysis and maintain computer systems software.
