Job summary

Jobgether is partnering with a healthcare organization in the United States to hire an Outpatient Coding Specialist. This remote role involves reviewing outpatient records, assigning ICD-10-CM codes, and ensuring compliance with regulations to support claims processing and revenue cycle improvement.

You will collaborate with clinical and administrative teams, maintain coding accuracy, and pursue ongoing education in regulatory updates and coding practices.

Qualifications

• CPC/CPC-A/CCS/CCS-P/CCA certification required; AHIMA credentialing within 2 years if applicable.
• Experience in a medical center or healthcare setting preferred.
• Knowledge of ICD-10-CM coding guidelines and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Review outpatient and ancillary medical records to identify diagnoses, verify documentation, and ensure accurate code assignment and sequencing.
• Assign ICD-10-CM codes using coding software and encoder tools following guidelines and hospital standards.
• Verify medical necessity by reviewing encoder edits and CMS policies and investigating potential denials.
• Review charges in the Cerner billing system for accuracy and timely submission; communicate discrepancies to managers.
• Monitor pre-bill reports and complete coding assignments within deadlines to support revenue cycle activities.
• Participate in training to maintain coding expertise and stay updated on regulatory changes.
• Uphold AHIMA ethical coding standards and regulatory compliance.
