Job summary

Responsibilities

• Assign and sequence ICD-10 and CPT-4 codes for various records per coding guidelines.
• Validate codes using computer-assisted coding software and revise as needed.
• Proficient with health information technology and coding applications.
• Interpret documentation to ensure codes are supported by the health record.
• Request provider clarification when information is incomplete or ambiguous.
• Abstract pertinent information into the coding system.
• Maintain coding quality and productivity to departmental standards.
• Analyze medical necessity using local and national coverage guidelines.
• Respond to pre-bill edits to support timely revenue cycle.
• Communicate discrepancies and coding concerns to the appropriate department.
• Stay updated with regulatory changes via mandatory training.
• Attend department meetings as scheduled.
• Accurate time/attendance recording; assist with overtime when needed.
• Protect patient confidentiality per HIPAA.
