Job summary

UofL Health is seeking a Coder I for orthopedic coding in a remote, home-based role. The incumbent will abstract clinical data and assign CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes to ensure appropriate reimbursement in line with CMS, state, and payer guidelines.

The successful candidate will have 1–4 years physician coding experience, CPC accreditation, and AHIMA credentials (CCS/CCS-P or CCA). This role emphasizes accuracy, compliance, and collaboration with providers and managers.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED/equivalent is required.
• CPC accreditation is required; CCS/CCS-P or CCA credentials are also required by AHIMA or AAPC.
• 1–4 years physician coding experience preferred; HIPAA privacy and security knowledge is assumed.

Responsibilities

• Accurately abstracts information from clinical documentation and assigns CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes and modifiers.
• Review and resolve coding denials and ensure compliant coding per CMS, ULH policies and payer rules.
• Maintain timely documentation for billing, participate in audits, and communicate with managers and providers.
