The coder works with HIPAA, CMS guidelines, and AAPC/AHIMA standards, guiding accuracy across coding and documentation. Ideal candidates have CPC and CCS/CCS-P certifications with at least three years of experience, strong EHR skills, and the ability to work independently while mentoring others.

Qualifications

• CPC certified by AAPC as required credential.
• CCS or CCS-P certification by AHIMA required.
• Minimum three years of coding experience specified.
• Advanced knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS and modifiers.
• Knowledge of CMS policies and NCCI edits.
• Ability to work independently with limited oversight.

Responsibilities

• Accurately abstracts information and assigns CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS codes.
• Identifies and communicates deficiencies impacting billing.
• Completes coding encounters in the work queue promptly.
• Reviews and resolves denials; ensures compliance with EM guidelines.
• Mentors staff and shares learning with the team.
• Maintains HIPAA privacy and security in all tasks.
