Job summary

Omega Healthcare is seeking an Oncology Data Specialist to accurately abstract cancer cases from electronic medical records into registry software. The role requires adherence to state, national, and client reporting standards, with duties spanning case finding, follow-up, tumor board participation, and reporting.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three years of oncology data abstracting experience, with abstracts in the past year.
• Abstract cases within six months from first contact date.
• ODS-C certification is required; RHIA/RHIT preferred.
• Knowledge of ICD-O, AJCC, SEER/CT data standards and coding instructions.

Responsibilities

• Abstract daily cancer cases into the cancer registry database.
• Resolve EDITs prior to submission to State Central Registry and NCDB.
• Follow CoC and State data standards to determine reportable cases.
• Request missing treatment data from physicians when needed.
• Submit cases to the State Central Registry if requested.
• Maintain log of abstractions and non-reportable cases.
• Process case finding, follow-up, and other registry duties.
• Maintain suspense system as required.
• Enter follow-up data for readmitted patients after abstracting.
• Comply with HIPAA and Omega policies.
