Remote On-Call Archaeologist – Midwest Fieldwork

Job summary

Eocene Environmental Group is seeking an On-Call Archaeologist to support cultural resource projects across the Midwest, with emphasis on Illinois and Indiana. This role offers flexibility to work remotely and travel as needed, with preference for candidates located in Kansas.

The role includes field surveys (Phase I & II), site documentation, and use of ArcGIS on mobile devices, under direction from the Project Manager.

Qualifications

• Holds a bachelor’s degree in archaeology, anthropology, or related field.
• Proficient in prehistoric and/or historic archaeology in the Midwest region.
• Proficient in documenting archaeological sites and IOs/IFs in the Midwest region.
• Organized, motivated, thorough, accurate, dependable, and trustworthy.
• Excellent navigational skills (GPS and compass) and ability to navigate and drive 4WD vehicles.
• Ability to read, write and speak English sufficiently to perform job duties and to interact and communicate with employees and vendors.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a Crew Member for the project.
• Conduct Phase I and Phase II cultural resources surveys.
• Document archaeological sites and IOs/IFs.
• Conduct probing or shovel testing.
• Use hand-held field technology (ArcGIS phone/tablet with GPS).
• Work in moderate weather conditions and on rough terrain.
• Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetings.
