Job summary

The State of North Carolina, Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Health Service Regulation, seeks a Facility Compliance Consultant I (Nursing Home Surveyor). The role conducts regulatory inspections of nursing homes and documents findings to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements.

This home-based position serves Cabarrus, Davidson, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Stanly, and Union counties, with average three days per week in nursing homes, and occasional overnight travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a health, human service, or educational related field and three years’ experience in surveying, clinical and/or administration of a program in a related health field.
• Master’s degree in social work and one year experience in surveying, clinical and/or administration of a program in a related health field
• Equivalent education and experience may apply per the Education and Experience Equivalency Guide.

Responsibilities

• Conduct onsite inspections of nursing homes during routine surveys and complaint investigations to assess compliance with state and federal requirements.
• Review, verify, and document facility operations and care practices through structured evaluation methods.
• Complete survey reports, including statements of deficiency and written findings related to complaint allegations.
• Apply standardized regulatory criteria during inspections to ensure consistent and accurate assessment outcomes.
• Coordinate inspection schedules across multiple counties and adjust to weekend, night‑shift, or extended‑hour needs when required.
• Document observations and findings promptly to support regulatory determinations and follow‑up processes.
• Communicate inspection expectations and outcomes with facility representatives to support regulatory compliance.

Education
