Job summary

Missionwell seeks a remote Senior Accountant and Team Lead to guide nonprofit financial leadership across multiple engagements. You will lead onboarding, establish controls, and coordinate finance functions while partnering with executives and boards to drive strategic results.

You will oversee month‑end closes, GAAP compliance, donor accounting, and grant reporting, with focus on accuracy, transparency, and growth for client organizations.

Qualifications

• Progressively responsible accounting leadership with 10+ years experience.
• GAAP, nonprofit accounting, grant compliance knowledge.
• Experience leading staff and cross-functional financial work, setting expectations and reviewing deliverables.
• Strong knowledge of internal controls and executive-level financial communication.
• Ability to manage multiple engagements and deadlines, maintain confidentiality.
• Proficiency with common accounting, reporting, collaboration, and document-management technology; learn Missionwell systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead onboarding and setup of assigned partners, including discovery and data transition.
• Assess systems, controls, reporting needs, and staffing; recommend improvements.
• Implement Missionwell standards, tools, documentation, and quality controls.
• Establish roles, deadlines, communication practices, and evidence of completion.
• Manage accounts payable/receivable, GL, month-end close, reconciliations, reporting for partners.
• Lead audit readiness and coordination; respond to findings and provide documentation.
• Oversee fund, grant, donor, and restriction accounting as applicable.
• Serve as Controller, fractional CFO, or senior advisor within engagement scope.
• Partner with executives on budgets, forecasts, cash planning, strategy, and governance.
• Explain complex financials to nonfinancial leaders and provide options and risks.
• Lead strategic projects such as restructurings, system implementations, and policy development.
