Job summary

UVA Health is seeking an experienced Neurosurgery Coding Specialist for a fully remote role. You will review complex neurosurgery procedures, office services, and E&M encounters, applying CPT and ICD-10-CM guidelines to ensure compliant, accurate coding.

Work remotely with providers and revenue cycle teams to support compliance, reimbursement, and data integrity. Requires 5+ years in neurosurgery coding and CPC certification.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant coding experience required.
• Neurosurgery experience preferred.
• CPC certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Independently review and code complex neurosurgery procedures, office-based services, and Evaluation & Management encounters.
• Apply advanced knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, modifier assignment, NCCI edits, global surgical package rules, and payer-specific requirements.
• Interpret provider documentation to accurately capture services rendered and ensure complete, compliant code assignment.
• Identify documentation gaps, coding risks, and compliance concerns while determining when provider clarification is needed.
• Support coding quality through research and application of coding guidelines, LCDs, NCDs, payer policies, and regulatory requirements.
• Utilize tools such as Epic, EncoderPro, charge review processes, and work queue management systems to maintain coding accuracy and productivity.
