Job summary

Leidos is hiring a Microgrid Project Engineer - Energy Storage and Generation Applications (100% Remote) to support distributed energy and microgrid projects. You will work across solar, energy storage, controls, and reciprocating engines, reporting to the Chief Engineer, with demonstrated Owner’s Engineering experience in PV and generation projects for multiple clients.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with a focus on power and 4-8 years in design/construction of distribution/generation/storage projects.
Experience providing Owner’s Engineering services for PV and/or other power generation projects across multiple clients.
Keen client focus and excitement to be part of groundbreaking projects.
Design experience in Distribution, Substation Protection & Control, or Substation Physical.
Strong awareness of NEC, IEEE 1547, IEEE 386 standards.
Ability to create One Line Diagrams, Electrical Plans/Elevations, AC/DC Schematics.
Familiarity with factory acceptance tests and on-site commissioning of power systems.
DER technologies including storage (VRFB), solar, engines; microgrid challenges and CPUC Rule 21.
Experience submitting interconnection applications and reviewing utility studies.
Collaboration with project managers, engineers, technicians, regulators.
Knowledge of pre-construction planning, permitting and coordination processes.
Experience with DER communication protocols (IEEE 2030.5, SunSpec, Modbus, DNP3).
US Citizenship or US Permanent Resident status.

Responsibilities

Provide resilient and adaptable power system solutions using all resource types.
Lead on solutions aligning with client goals and constraints.
Work with switchgear, battery, inverter, generator, and other DER to design up to 35kV; interconnections higher voltages.
Coordinate interconnection applications with utilities.
Navigate legacy drawings and incomplete information to plan, estimate and design.
Manage engineering subconsultants and construction partners.
Serve as Owner’s Engineer representing client interests through development, design, procurement and commissioning.
Lead technical review of EPC and OEM deliverables for standards and performance.
Support FAT, SAT, commissioning and performance validation activities.
